Tiger Prawns on Skewers

Arun and I got up early on 2nd April 2011 to watch the India-Sri Lanka Cricket World Cup Finals. Arun took his favourite side of his couch with the TV remote (well he wasn't going to the change the channel for sure :)...I was equally excited, took our Indian flag and wrapped around me and was all set to cheer team India. But slowly I started to feel hungry (am human after all ).But I didn't want to spend the whole day inside the kitchen, so I had already decided what would be the menu for the day....Ghee Rice, Kerala style Egg Curry and Caramel Custard :) All the recipes will be uploaded soon, but today am gonna share with you, the appetizer for the D-day.

"Tiger Prawns on Skewers" was the appetizer to go with our celebrations, Beer and Breezer. Prawns, the King of Sea-Food is such a delicacy that I can do anything for it. Seriously it is so yummy yum. And the recipe is super-duper easy that you can make it in a jiffy. So Let's cook people! By the way....INDIA won the WORLD CUP that day!! :)

Ingredients:
  • 500 gm tiger prawns
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (til oil)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (til)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  • salt for seasoning
  • wooden skewers (preferably size of your palm)
Method:
  1. To make your work easier, buy frozen prawns (which is cleaned and deveined already). Thaw the prawns overnight so that all the water comes out from the prawns.
  2. Marinate the prawns with the above ingredients and keep aside for at least 30 min.
  3. Meanwhile soak the wooden skewers in a bowl of water to avoid it from burning when it is on the griddle.
  4. Skewer at least 4 marinated prawns onto one wooden skewer .
  5. Heat a non stick griddle pan and spread the skewers on it. Grill the skewers 4-5 minutes each side until cooked through.
  6. Serve immediately with a chilli-garlic dipping sauce. WHAT AN APPETIZER!! :)
